Who we are
Hi! I’m Susan, the owner, and artist behind Pig Party Pottery.
I’ve been lucky enough to have clay in my life for over a decade. I first began learning the magic of clay in high school but didn’t go back to clay until my 30’s. Solely taught by the arts community in the areas I’ve lived, I’ve learned from amazing potters and artists, who have devoted their lives to this beautiful craft. As a full time RN, it was challenging to find a studio that worked with my crazy work schedule. Now, with the opportunity to have a home studio space, I’ve been able to develop my voice as an artist and explore creativity on and off the wheel. Every type of art needs a community, and a safe place to share and explore ideas. As someone who has passionately been a supporter of teaching and sharing knowledge, I’d like to share my space and knowledge with others who want to begin, or continue their journey with clay.
A lot of people ask me how I got the name Pig, and it all happened by mistake. When my nephew was born, I was asked, if I will be called an “Aunt” or “Ant” (pronunciation), and I answered, “If I know my sister, it will be something silly like Aunt Pig.” And so, it began – he didn’t know my real name until he was at least 10! As our relationship grew, our time together became known as “Pig Party”. So, years later, it only seemed natural to have my pottery business named after a beloved nickname.
